Django is web framework for Python. In this tutorial series we will teach you everything you need to know about django. History Of Django Django was created by Adrian Holovaty and Simon Willison back in 2003. They were developers at a fast pace web news site called World Online. The developers at World Online were often required to add features to the World Online site with-in hours of the concept being dreamed up. Prior to Django, the developers were required to write code in PHP which proved to be somewhat difficult. That is when Adrian and Simon went out looking for a more efficient and effective way to write code to speed up the development of new features of the World Online site. They chose to start writing code in Python and while they were doing so they started to develop a web framework that would meet their needs and this was how Django was created. In 2005, the Django Framework was released as an open source project to the world. Django is now on the top of the web frameworks you can use with Python. The framework continues to grow and improve over the years. The developers behind Django continue to make improvements which allows for this framework to always be one of the top choices of Python developers who build web apps. What Is Django? Now that we have learned the history of Django it is time to learn a bit more about the Django Framework. What is Django? It can be summed up in a few words. Django is high-level web framework for the Python programming language, which is designed for rapid development of websites, in a clean coding fashion, and formatted to use the DRY(DON’T REPEAT YOURSELF) concept. Who Uses Django? A lot of the most popular sites that you and I use where build using Django. Here are some examples, Disqus, Pinterest, Instagram, Bitbucket, The Onion, and thousands more. If you would like to see a list all the Django sites built check out http://djangosites.org Read Django’s Documentation With your journey through the Django framework. You are going to need to reference the documentation often. It is important that you take the time to know how to find and navigate the documentation. If you visit http://djangoproject.com and look at the top bar you will see documentation here you will find an extensive amount of explanation of code used in Django.
